In 1956, just six months prior to his re-election, President Dwight D. Eisenhower was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. The 34th President of the United State had complained of stomach problems for 33 years following an appendectomy, and an ileotransverse colostomy was performed. Remarkably, Eisenhower was back working five days later.
