She shares that Crohn’s is an inflammatory bowel disease and a chronic condition; there isn’t a cure and patients have to manage the symptoms for life. Crohn’s is an autoimmune disease meaning the immune system begins to attack the body instead of defending it, in the case of Crohn’s, it attacks the intestines.
Inflammatory bowel disease patients will need to take a variety of medications to help control the symptoms of the disease. Loïs explains that she has to take different anti-inflammatory medications, steroids, and vitamin supplements and is about to begin immunosuppressive therapy.
