Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a term for a group of diseases that affect the colon and intestines. It is an autoimmune disease where the body begins to attack the digestive system. In this short video from My Health Specialist, Mr. Ian Mitchell, a Consultant General and Gastrointestinal Surgeon, discusses whether or not IBD can be cured.

Mitchell explains that currently there is no cure for either Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis but with lifestyle changes and medications, the two conditions can be managed very well for most patients. Some patients may require surgery to help control the disease, but most patients will find they have sustained periods where the disease is inactive or in remission and they don’t need to take any medications.
