In this video from Julia Kristina Counselling, mental health therapist Kristina shares some tips on how to help a loved one who is suffering from depression.

Kristina talks about some of the well-meaning things people may say to their loved ones that are in fact quite unhelpful and suggests some alternative things to say or ways to approach subjects that are more supportive. In addition, she explains that people with depression tend to push those nearest to them away and not to take this personally as this is usually because they don’t want to burden others.
Kristina explains that we need to understand that we can’t fix someone with depression, only support them as they seek help for themselves.
