How to Reduce IBD Flares Through Diet

In this video from March 2012, Dr. James Meschino talks about using diet to help patients with inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. He discusses what IBD patients should eat during periods of remission to help heal the digestive tract and avoid future flares.

Meschino says his diet suggestions will help IBD patients to suppress their inflammatory response, heal intestinal cells and reduce irritation and provide optimal nutritional benefits to help build people up after periods of illness. Some of his suggestions include reducing the amount of animal fat you consume, eliminating gluten and refined sugars, and avoiding alcohol.
