How Do Biologics Work in Treating IBD?

Biologics are beneficial antibodies made from living organisms which protect the intestinal tissue and promote healing, which helps to get IBD patients into remission.

Biologics are prescribed to patients who have moderate to severe cases of either Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis and are administered either through injections every one to two weeks or by IV infusion every four to eight weeks. There are two types of biologics used in the treatment of IBD–AntiTNF and Antiadhesion–which target different parts of the body’s immune system.
