IBD has been found to be prevalent mostly in North American and European countries, and the least in Asian and African countries. Caucasians and Jewish people are highly prone to developing IBD. On a more general note, industrialized and developed countries have been found to have a greater incidence of IBD. It can be said that urbanization and westernization exposes people to its hazardous after effects (industrial smoke, pollution, allergens, etc.) which act as predisposing conditions.
